José María Lassalle was born in Santander and lives in Madrid though he has always had close ties with Barcelona. He holds a PhD in Law and is currently a Philosophy of Law professor at Universidad Pontificia de Comillas as well as a consultant and director of the Esade Technological Humanism Forum. In addition, he writes regularly for the La Vanguardia and El País newspapers and collaborates as an analyst for numerous television and radio programmes, including La Hora 1 (TVE), Las mañanas (RNE) and Hoy por hoy (Cadena SER).

He is also a member of the Instituto Hermes’s board of trustees and a member of the Cercle d’Economia de Barcelona governing body. Previously, he taught at several other Spanish universities such as Universidad de Cantabria, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Universidad San Pablo-CEU and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. He also served as Secretary of State for Culture and Digital Agenda, was a Member of Parliament and directed Fundación Carolina within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He renounced his seat in Parliament and his political affiliation in 2018. His latest book is entitled Ciberleviatán (Arpa, 2019).
