Sophia Carodenuto is Associate Professor at the University of Victoria’s (UVic) Department of Geography, where she leads the Environmental Governance Group. She is a political geographer whose research is focused on tropical forest-risk commodity trade, natural resources governance, and the intersection of public policy, political economy, and environmental justice. Her scholarship foregrounds practice-based knowledge with the broad aim to improve lives and ecosystems by identifying the unique needs of communities of place.

Her geographic focus is global, with research spanning Africa, the Pacific, and South/Central America. Prior to joining UVic in 2018, she was based in Cameroon where she managed sustainable forest and land use projects around the world.
