VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Ignasi Carreras: Our study looks into the influence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on people management. It explores how those companies launching programmes that target CSR and people management are better able to create policies and best practices for responsible management in the workplace.

These best practices boost companies' ability to promote and retain talent. They also foster a sense of belonging and create settings that both raise a company's performance and are fun for staff to work in.

Best practices

Responsible people management is implemented through a series of policies and best practices. Our study highlights seven key best practices.

  1. Establishing work-life balance policies and flexibility.
  2. Raising the inclusion of people with disabilities.
  3. Promoting diversity in the workplace.
  4. Establishing health-related company policies.
  5. Fostering training and talent growth.
  6. Promoting corporate volunteering.
  7. Implementing responsible outplacement.

Key factors for responsible people management

Responsible people management requires the right leadership. It means that those in top-management positions must believe in and foster CSR. It also calls for leadership styles that are in keeping with the firm's present and planned CSR practices.

There is also a need to integrate CSR into the company's corporate strategy and to link social responsibility with competitive factors.

The third strand in advancing responsible people management in companies is to implement a CSR strategy based on intra-departmental collaboration – especially between the CSR and People Management departments.

Responsible people management is both a goal and a practice that can be applied to all kinds of organisations, be they private companies, public bodies, NGO's or non-profit organisations.
