Social 14 October 2026

The Afghan journalist and activist explains how the Taliban's return changed her life. Now, from her exile in Spain, she devotes her work to helping Afghan women and girls regain their rights.

Do Better Team

After the Taliban's return to power, Khadija Amin had to go into exile in Spain and start a new life. The loss of freedom and rights, a blow suffered not only by her but by 20 million Afghan women, motivated her to continue the fight for change and equality from afar.

During the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 – 2027 Academic Year at Esade, Amin spoke with Sira Abenoza, Associate Professor in the university's Department of Society, Politics and Sustainability, about the turbulent reality in Afghanistan, the risk of normalizing the loss of human rights, and the need for more inclusive policies.

The founder of the association Hope of Freedom not only shared her experience but also encouraged students to develop critical thinking, stressed the importance of the international community, and reminded them of the need not to lose hope. Rights and freedoms cannot be taken for granted; they require active defense by every generation.
