His teaching and research activities fall into the area of macroeconomics, with a focus on its international and applied dimensions. An important part of this activity has concentrated on the follow-up and analysis of the European Economic and Monetary Union, as well as its adaptation into the global economic context.

Concomitant to his academic and professional work has been the link with macro policymaking institutions. He has been Economic Advisor to the European Commission (2000-2003), Policy Research Advisor to the Bank of Spain (1990-1999), and to the Spanish Ministry of Finance (1988-1990). Concomitant has also been the link with the realities of the business world through his participation in MBA and Executive Education Programs.

Before joining ESADE in 1992, he was professor at the University Complutense of Madrid (1989-1992) and the Academic Center of the Bank of Spain (1989-1991). He also held different teaching position at the University of Minnesota (1986-1988) and the University Autónoma of Barcelona (1980-82).
