Building each generation’s family strategy, with Joaquim Uriach

Business 18 July 2025

Professionalization, the adaptation of governance structures, and a strong sense of legacy have shaped the path of the Uriach Group, a family business with nearly 200 years of history.

Chair in Family-Owned Enterprises

Few family-owned organizations can claim a legacy of more than 185 years. Founded in 1838, the Uriach Group is one of them. In this episode of Do Better Talks, Joaquim Uriach —a fifth-generation member, chair of the Family Council, and board member of the group— reflects on the key milestones that have marked the evolution of this historic company in the health sector.

From the shareholder restructuring led by his father, which consolidated ownership within the fourth generation, to the professionalization of management and the creation of sophisticated governance structures, the conversation offers a unique perspective on how a business family has managed to adapt, transform, and prepare for the future.

Hosted by María José Parada, director of the Chair in Family-Owned Enterprises at Esade and Andbank.
