In a context of growing geopolitical uncertainty and economic transformation, industrial policy has once again taken center stage. In response to tensions around reshoring production, the concept of “made with Europe” is gaining traction: participating in global value chains under European standards, while also promoting technology transfer, job creation, and the generation of added value within the continent.
In this episode of the Do Better Podcast, Juan Moscoso del Prado, senior fellow at EsadeGeo, speaks with Jordi García Brustenga, Secretary of State for Industry, about the priorities of industrial policy and the tools needed to drive it, such as the Clean Industrial Deal and the Industrial Accelerator Act.
The conversation is structured around three major interconnected objectives: decarbonization, scaling up, and strengthening European strategic autonomy. In this sense, it is emphasized that the transition toward a more sustainable industry is not driven solely by climate urgency, but also by a logic of competitiveness, investment, and positioning. As García Brustenga highlights, Europe has the opportunity to establish itself as a leader in future industries.
The episode also addresses one of the key challenges: financing. Following the major boost provided by the Recovery and Resilience Plan and the Next Generation EU funds, the challenge now is to consolidate a stable financial framework capable of sustaining these policies over time and turning a favorable moment into lasting structural change.
